2011 Sydney ANDA – Ram’s Head Dollar- $1 Al/Br Unc Coin – ‘S’ Counterstamp
The Merino ram’s head design features on the 2011 $1 uncirculated ‘C’ mintmark and this year’s privy mark coins for Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. It’s the same design that graced the Australian shilling from 1938 until 1963. The original design was modelled on a grand champion Merino ram from the annual Sydney Sheep show in 1932 which was considered to be unmatched in the position of its head and horns. The ram was named Uardry 0.1 after its home station, however it quickly became known as the ‘Shilling Ram’ and represents Australia’s reliance on primary industry through its economic history.
