This coin features pirate John Rackham (Calico Jack) who was born in England in 1682. This pirate is most remembered for his striped calico breeches and ‘Jolly Roger’ flag. When his ship was captured, Rackham’s two female crew members fought fiercely, while their drunken shipmates surrendered feebly. Tried in Jamaica in 1720, Rackham was hanged, but both women escaped death by claiming to be “with child”.
The aluminium bronze coin reverse depicts Calico Jack against the backdrop of a pirate ship. The design includes a representation of the skull and crossed swords of the Jolly Roger flag and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark
