2008 Year Proof Coin Set International Year of Planet Earth

The Royal Australian Mint has recognised the importance of this year and has adopted the theme for its 2008 Year Sets. The Year Set designs were developed in partnership with Geoscience Australia – a peak body for IPYE activities in Australia. In the Proof set, the $1 coin depicts the powerful impact of climate change on all forms of life, the change we effect on the earth, modelling how mineral deposits formed and how the landscape has evolved over millions of years, showing the sediment layers down through to the ground water hidden beneath.
