2009 6 Coin Proof Year Set - International Year of Astronomy
The year 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, a world-wide celebration of our exploration of the universe. It marks the 400th anniversary Galileo. Galileo’s first use of the telescope and is recognition of his revolutionary discoveries that began modern astronomy. With the theme ‘The Universe, Yours to Discover’, the International Year of Astronomy 2009 is an initiative of the International Astronomical Union and is endorsed by the United Nations and UNESCO. To mark this occasion the Royal Australian Mint has dedicated its 2009 year set to this event. A unique $1 coin has been produced for the 2009 6 coin proof year set. The $1 proof coin features an image of the famous radio telescope located in Parkes NSW, symbolic of Australia’s place in international astronomy. All 6 coin proof and uncirculated year set will come with a free ‘glow in the dark’ post card.
