To celebrate the 2020 QANTAS Centenary, the Royal Australian Mint has released an aluminium bronze $1 coin in a Royal Australian Mint coin roll with 20 coins. The reverse depicts the 'Spirit of Australia' with the iconic flying kangaroo and a stylised Boeing Dreamliner flying through the number 100, with lines in its wake to signify movement, progression and the airline's journey through a century of history.
Founded in western Queensland in 1920 with just two aircraft and three staff, QANTAS first served remote communities across inland Australia, including delivery of medical aid through the Royal Flying Doctors and providing the Nation with vital services during the Second World War. During he post-war years, QANTAS brought new Australians to our shores, and allowed many people to access air travel for the first time.
