On 1st March 1901, exactly two months after the Federation of Australia, responsibility for the former colonies' naval forces passed to the new Commonwealth Government, setting in train developments resulting in the emergence of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in 1911.
The Perth Mint struck a 99.9% pure silver 1oz $1 proof coin inscribed Royal Australian Navy 100 Years 191102911 with the design comprising images of sailors of the RAN, HMAS Yarra, the river class torpedo boat destroyer and the HMAS ANZAC. Also included in this set is a gold plated replica of the official Navy badge incorporating the St Edwards (Queen's) Crown.
