A moving tribute to the Australian Red Cross, which was established just nine days after the First World War began in August 1914, the second issue of the Perth Mint’s Australian Posters of WWI Series has been unveiled!
Whether to raise funds, perform quasi-nursing duties, create comfort packages or work in the Red Cross’ Wounded & Missing Enquiry Bureau, female volunteers played a key role on the homefront in the First World War. Beseeching Australia’s women to rally round the boys at the front, posters were crucial in recruitment drives. One of these was a Red Cross ‘Help’ poster honoured by this poignant Australian legal tender coin.
