Released from the Royal Australian Mint is the Columbus, Drake & Cavendish Terrestrial Dome Western Hemisphere 2019 $5 Domed Silver Proof Coin based on “A New and Accurate Map of the World”, originally published in 1626 in an atlas called Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World by English cartographer John Speed.

The original map contains images of astronomical drawings, diagrams, mythical figures, and portraits of famous navigators: Drake, Magellan, Cavendish and Van Der Noort. The map was often displayed as a separate work to the atlas and seen as a piece of art due to its elaborate detailing. The names: Columbus, Drake, Cavendish, and Magellan are represented on this Silver Domed Proof Coin.
